Disease Resistant Roses in Bloom!

I'm a bit choosey about the plants that I bring into my landscape. I focus on gardening plants that are easy to maintain and bring lots of joy from their beautiful blooms. These disease resistant, white Knock Out® roses do just that.

There are some gifts that really just keep giving. My husband, Andrew, bought me these lovely white Knock Out® roses from our local gardening shop, Hoffmann-Hillermann Garden & Floral Center, as a welcome-home gift when we first moved to New Haven several years back.

Right now these roses are enjoying the spotlight!

Now I have heard that roses are annoying, high-maintenance plants. Those are just the kind that I like to avoid. However, Andrew found this beautiful white rose that was specifically designed to be easy to manage and disease resistant.

Indeed, I have had no problems with these roses.

The roses can be used for erosion control, so I placed them on a sunny slope along with the catmint you see pictured above. It's great for the roses, too, as they like good drainage in full sun.

These roses are a compact plant that can grow up to 4' tall and just as wide.

I haven't pruned mine at all, but according to our gardening shop, they should be pruned in late winter.

Mulch them and add fertilizer in the spring and mid-summer to ensure beautiful blooms1Add organic matter to the base of the plant to build healthy soil. (Find out more about free sources of organic matter here.)

This is a great combination, and a fantastic example to try using a disease-resistant cultivar and placement to create a low-maintenance landscape.

Thanks for the gift, sweetheart!
